A curated journey through the experience
Plaza de La Trinidad
We start our tour in this amazing place which is one of the best places in Getsemaní. It was the main point of meeting of the people in the colonial times.
3 minutesBarrio Getsemani
We are going to walk the beautiful and colorful streets in Getsemaní which have amazing street art like graffittis, etc.
40 minutesPortal de Los Dulces
In the Plaza de los Coches we can find the famous Portal de los Dulces with a variety of candies. This portal has a spectacular view of the Clock Tower, and it was not always called like that, because in colonial times it was known as the Portal of the Judge, then when they decided to sell the black slaves it received the name of the Portal of the Slaves.
5 minutesPlaza de la Aduana
In this square we will find architectural constructions from colonial times, between them, the Marquez de Premio Real house, a typical colonial beauty from the 18th century. A great spot for beautiful shots.
5 minutesTorre del Reloj
This place was the ancient entrance to the walled city. So we will learn about how this spot worked as the division of the city in economical terms.
15 minutesCatedral Santa Catalina de Alejandria
Its construction began in 1575, but in 1586, when only the tower remained to be built, the pirtata Francis Drake partially destroyed it. The resumption of construction took place between 1598 and 1612 with the additions of various things, such as the very high Florentine-style dome and the addition of marble on the main facade. You definitely want to have a photo taken in here.
5 minutesCasa del Marquez de Valdehoyos
This house was built during the 17th century by the Marquis of Valdehoyos who had the privilege of importing slaves and flour.
Parque de Bolívar
In the midst of this vegetation is built the statue of the liberator Simon Bolivar, sitting on his horse, which was inaugurated on November 11, 1896. During the tour around the park, several interesting places are present to take great photographies.
5 minutesSantuario de San Pedro Claver
The Jesuits created the construction of the monastery and church of San Pedro Claver in the 17th century, and it was originally called San Ignacio de Loyola. The facade of the church was made, like most of the buildings of the old city, in coral stones, which are famous in the region. If you visit Cartagena, you definitely have to have a photo taken in this place.
15 minutesBaluarte de San Ignacio
The first wall built in this section was built on Jesuit land, the religious ended up drilling the wall and building their college and cloister on it, thus invalidating its defensive function. After a dispute that lasted thirty years, it was decided to move the wall to the outside by creating a street that would allow the walkway between the school and the future wall, with the Company in charge of paying the costs of the new construction.
