Day 2: Sunrise at mount Penanjakan - Sand Sea - Luhur Poten temple - Bromo crater - Surabaya

If weather conditions permits you to, you can see the sunrise at an altitude of 2.770 m. On clear days, you can also see the highest mountain on Java, Mount Semeru, and the Java Sea north of mount Bromo.
2 hoursSand Sea
The black volcanic ashen Sea of Sand is a long stretch of about 10 km and borders the Bromo volcano at the northern side. If you wish to walk in this moonlike landscape, ask the driver to stop the Jeep.
30 minutesLuhur Poten Temple
The Jeep will park in the Sand Sea and near Luhur Poten temple. Then it is a 45 min hike one way to the top of mount Bromo. Onroute you will pass the Luhur Poten temple. Most often it is closed, but when open just ask to take a look inside.
Mount Bromo
While walking to the top of mount Bromo, which actually isn't the highest peak in the environment, take loads of time to look at this impressive landscape. Be careful at the crater rim.
