The artificial lake of Aoos fountain is at an altitude of 1,350m, covers an area of 12km2 and was constructed in 1986 for the purpose of producing energy. It is located between two national parks, Valia Calda and the Vikos-Aoos Geopark. In the area there are many small natural lakes, mountainous meadows and forests of black pine that reach a height of 30m.
and also beeches (Fagus). Species of orchids and wild daffodils (Narcissus) are spotted beside the lake along with bird species like black storks and ducks but also bears, wolves and foxes reside in the area and more.
