A curated journey through the experience
Berat Castle
This fortress of Berat, known as Kalaja to the locals, is a dominant feature overlooking the town. The origins of the castle go all the way back to the 4th century with a medieval fortress built in the 13th and 14th centuries with 24 towers and four entrance gateways
1 hourNational Iconographic Museum Onufri
The museum collection is constituted with 173 objects chosen from a fund of 1500 objects, belonging to the fund of Albanian Churches and Monasteries
30 minutesGorica Bridge
Built in the centre of the city of Berat, the grandiose Bridge of Gorica is one of the most beautiful Ottoman bridges in the Balkan region, and connects the city with the neighborhood of the same name. This object owes much of its beauty to its very gradual arch, 10m tall, and elegantly extending 130m over across both sides of the Osumi riverbed. It is composed of a total of seven arches, wooden railings, and several small “windows,” which give the arches whimsical facial features, making this bridge a rare sight indeed. Once spotted, you’ll find it hard not to stop your car by the side of the road in order to admire its beauty close up.
Mangalem
In Mangalemi, below the castle, you can see the famous view of the facades of the houses, with windows that seem to stand above each other. In general, a traditional house has two floors, where the second is prominent and has many cambered windows and wood carvings. With its houses built along the steep hill, the view of Mangalemi is the reason that another name for Berat is the City of the Floating Windows.
Quarter Of Gorica
Across the Osum River lies the Gorica neighborhood, whose houses face those of Mangalemi. The arched bridge of Gorica, built in 1780, is a beautiful architectural monument constructed to link Gorica with Mangalemi.
Kisha Shen Triadha (Holy Trinity Church)
Holy Trinity Church is an Orthodox church in Berat Castle, Berat, Albania. It became a Cultural Monument of Albania in 1948.
Bachelors' Mosque
The 19th-century Bachelors' Mosque is down by the Osumi River. It was built for unmarried shop assistants and junior craftsmen, and is perched between some fine Ottoman-era shopfronts along the river.
15 minutesBulevardi Republika
The Bulevardi Republika street is the main pedestrian zone of the Berat city, which is tightly connected to the old part of the city.
Cobo Winery
A tour of the facility provides a comprehensive view of the method of wine making and detailed explanations, punctuated with contrasting sentimental and humorous vignettes that create a vivid impression of the family’s history and the roots of its wines. After the tour of the grounds, guests are invited to share a glass of wine and exchange stories with a member of the Çobo family while enjoying a variety of homemade Albanian cheeses and locally-grown olives.
