Dambulla Cave Temple
The stunning Royal Rock Temple complex is located in the southern side of Dambulla, around 160 meters above the road. About 150 incredibly exquisite Buddha sculptures and paintings, some of Sri Lanka's most important and evocative religious art, are housed in five distinct caverns. Over 2000 years ago, Buddha statues were initially made here, and following kings added to and enriched the cave art over the decades. The caves offer spectacular views of the surrounding landscape, with Sigiriya visible from a distance of 20 kilometers.

Day 2: Kandy
3 hoursKandy
Kandy's skies are wounded on some days, with persistent mist clinging to the hills surrounding the city's lovely centerpiece lake. The mist is softly parted by gentle hill-country breezes, revealing colorful buildings amid Kandy's strange woodland halo. Three-wheelers careen around slick bends in the town center, creating a soft mist that threatens the silk saris worn by local ladies. Even when it's pouring, this city looks great.
