A curated journey through the experience
Langa
Leaving Cape Town towards east. Our journey into the wine country will take us past some of cape Town and South Africa's most well known townships. The first one Langa, is the oldest township in Cape Town. Compared to other squatter like townships of South Africa, Langa is well developed and has seen a local economy here grow from strength to strength over the years. Some of the new notable Industries here includes ceramic manufacturing, Traditional South African Bistros as well as filming. Safe house by Denzell Washington is one of the most famous movies that were filmed here.
Khayelitsha
Khayelitsha is Xhosa for ' Our New Home'. Situated 20 minutes east of Langa. Measuring 10 square miles and inhabiting more than half million people. It is the biggest and most populous township in Cape Town. Khayelitsha also has her own local economy, but the vast majority of her inhabitants travels daily to the City for work. Some of Khayelitsha's residents also work in the rich wine lands of Stellenbosch, as this is much closer to them compared to the City.
Vergenoegd Low The Wine Estate
This particular estate enjoys a unique position between the Helderberg Mountains and False Bay. Its at this meeting point that her vineyards are cooled by fresh ocean breezes - infusing the fertile soil with a maritime character, and allowing the grapes to ripen more slowly. This distinctive terroir is one of the aspects that lend her wines their extraordinary taste. There is a delightful story. About sustainability. A dream of doing things differently. At Vergenoegd Low, they have always been dedicated to great wine, innovation and enviromentally friendly practices. So when it came to protect their precious vineyard from pests, Today their enthusiastic flock of over 1600 Indian Runner ducks forage in the vineyards, happily dinning on snails and keeping our terroir pest free, naturally.
Stellenbosch Town Hall
Stellenbosch is known to be the second oldest colonial town in South Africa, and after only Cape Town. Her Architecture, water furrows as well over 300 years old oak trees gives one a nostalgic feeling of a bygone era. Dorp street for example has the longest row of oldest buildings in the Southern Hemisphere. Your guide will give a chance to explore the town on foot and also an orientation of the town.
45 minutesTokara Wine Estate
At the centre of the Cape Winelands lies the Simonsberg Mountains, a fynbos-rich massif, home to exceptional vineyards since the 17th century. Its on the Southern slopes, with unrivalled views over Falsebay to Table Mountain, that you will find Tokara home vineyards and olive groves. At Tokara they focus on two of the greatest grape varieties in the world Carbenet Sauvignon and Sauvignon blanc. They are reflected in our three ranges - TOKARA Premium Colllection, as blends across sites - TOKARA Reserve Collection, single vineyard offerings - TOKARA Directors Reserve, the very best and most expressive parcels used to create iconic blends that define their flagship wines.
