The original town was completely submerged but the community refused to be defeated and decided to rebuild on higher ground, giving birth to the new town of El Peñol. Known as the "Phoenix of America," this town is a testament to the human spirit and the power of community.

Embark on a challenging climb to the top, ascending 740 stairs, where you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views and a sense of accomplishment. The climb provides an opportunity to burn off some of the delicious Colombian empanadas you may have indulged in earlier. At the top, take a moment to soak in the magical scenery, and if you're feeling refreshed, you can also enjoy a refreshing Colombian Michelada with mango from the souvenir shop. Do keep in mind that the descent involves 740 stairs also, some of which are steep and tight, so bring comfortable shoes and prepare for a workout.
