Saqqara is one of the most important necropolis' in Ancient Egypt, due to its proximity to Memphis and for being the site of the Step Pyramid, the first major stone construction in history not to mention the first pyramid anywhere. The funerary complex of Pharaoh Djoser, built by the genius Imhotep, is remarkably elegant and well-preserved, even by modern standards.
