Praca do Comercio (Terreiro do Paco)
Our tour starts at Praça do Comércio, historically known as Terreiro do Paço, as it was the place where Portuguese kings lived for a long time. Here we will talk about the initial history of Lisbon until the earthquake of 1755 that changed our city in an irreversible way.
25 minutesArco do Triunfo
At this point we will talk about the destruction of the Lisbon earthquake of 1755 and we will start the Pombaline Era, where there were radical changes in the city's fabric and we will continue through the Baixa Pombalina talking about the facts of this time and its innovations.
Rua Augusta Satna Maria Maior
Through Rua Augusta we will approach all the innovations and architecture of the buildings built with a very advanced technology, for the time, capable of withstanding earthquakes. But this was not the only thing that was stipulated when the Baixa Pombalina was built, the entire structure of the city was modified, straight and wide streets starts to be part of th city and a new style of architecture.
30 minutesRossio Square
In Rossio Square we advance in our history of Portugal, it is in this square that has a statue of king Dom Pedro IV of Portugal and I of Brazil can be found. We talk about the Napoleon invasion and the scape of the portuguese Royal Family to Brazil, their return and the Independence of Brazil where king Dom Pedro IV is a fundamental part of this historical part.
20 minutesLargo do Carmo
After Rossio we arrive at Largo do Carmo and following our Portuguese historical line, it is here that very important facts take place on April 25, 1974, a historic day for the Portuguese nation, when Portugal leaves behind its dictatorial period towards the democracy. This is also where we end our tour, with an excellent panoramic view of the city of Lisbon.
