Fall Creek Falls State Park
On this full-day adventure we journey approximately 2.5 hours east of our Nashville meet up location deep into the heart of the Cumberland Plateau. Don’t worry, we’ll make a brief pitstop about halfway along our journey for an opportunity to stretch and use the “potty” lol.
2 hours 30 minutesCane Creek Falls
We begin our adventure Cane Creek Falls (85') and Cascades (45'). There is a short walk from the parking lot the observation deck and nature center. There is a also a short but fairly steep trail to the creek bed near the base of the cascades. We will explore this area for about 30-45 minutes before crossing cane creek via a suspended bridge.
45 minutesCane Creek Falls Overlook Trail
After an exhilarating crossing of Cane Creek suspension bridge we hike the gorge rim to Cane Creek Falls Overlook. This is a cliff based vantage point high above Cane Creek offering stunning views of 85 foot tall Cane Creek Falls and the impressively tall Rockhouse Falls measuring in at 125 feet.
45 minutesRocky Point Overlook Trail
As we continue our hike to to the star attraction of this trip, Fall Creek Falls, we will take a short but intense spur trail to Rocky Point Overlook. Accessing this overlook requires some rather serious rock scrambling but that just adds to the fun. The effort you put in to getting here will be rewarding with gorge-ouse views of the canyon-like gorge system below.
45 minutesFall Creek Falls Overlook
Note: restrooms are also located in this area.
45 minutesFall Creek Falls
Now the real adventure begins as we make the steep and rocky 1/3 mile trek to the base of Fall Creek Falls for impressive views looking up at this gigantic 256ft tall waterfall and its skinnier cousin Coon Creek Falls at 250ft tall. If you adventurous enough, then you might even be able to hike to the backside of the falls for a view few will ever experience. After taking time to thoroughly absorb this other worldly experience, we then hike back up to the top of the gorge. This is another short opportunity to take in views from the overlook and use the restroom.
1 hour 30 minutesSnackbar Grill
The café offers other menu items and these may be purchased at your expense.
30 minutesBetty Dunn Nature Center
Next we take a forest trail back to the nature center parking lot. Along the way we will once again cross over the Cane Creek suspended bridge.
1 hourPiney Creek Falls
After refueling and recharging at the Snack Bar Café, we board our minibus and journey down Scenic Loop Road towards Piney Creek Falls.
